“Industrial Philosophy”

In this collection stylization and form brevity reach their utmost. Industrial philosophy represents compact, thoughts that are often ironic, conveyed to the viewer through simplified and geometrized forms, so harmonious with our routine everyday life. Yet, this said, these works just as all my oeuvre remain ornamental and very rhythmic.

“Puzurs”

Floral wreath defines the backbone of composition. It symbolizes fertility of meadows, the Universe and a sign of Infinity and motion at the same time. Round form is ideal. Nature cycle is a continuous and dynamic motion. The wreath is also an indispensable symbol of St. John’s Eve, it is connected with nature and its rhythms and recurrence.

“Pomegranate Blossom”

Pomegranate fruit in bloom is a very powerful symbol. This is the image of fertility and procreation, the Sun, movement, consistent patterns of natural rhythms. It has for me direct associations with personalities who are so significant for my creative works, Sergei Paradjanov who is a film director and an artist (let us remember his legendary film «The Pomegranate Colour») and poet Sayat Nova.

Orchid is the flower of joy. According to a legend of New Zealand Maori tribe it was born out of the first rainbow on Earth, a gigantic colourful bridge of which crumbled under the weight of descended immortal ghosts. The shape of a flower reminds an exquisite butterfly.

“Magnolias”

Magnolias are the symbol of spring, love, beauty and nobleness. To give one’s fiancée a flower of magnolia as a gift means to reveal the depth of one’s feeling and seriousness of intentions. Oriental peoples inextricably link the flower to wedding traditions. It recreates in memory of a viewer gorgeous traditional images of Japanese and Chinese paintings and graphic arts.

How to grasp that very instant when a mask becomes part of personality or the other way round – a character turns into a public mask? In creativity there are always more questions than answers.

“Birds of Paradise”

The image of Peacock is a symbol of luxury, idleness and graceful posturing. Associative array of this image is like a peacock feather fan, it is infinitely beautiful. It is all in one: a saturated smell of Indian spice and shady gardens of Persian ruler, sugary sweetness of an exotic delicacy and oriental fairy tales of Sheherazade, traditional Chinese painting and centuries-old history of Armenian miniature with quaint ornaments made of birds, letters and oriental motives. Birds of Paradise, Phoenix, Bird of Happiness and the Fire Bird – all of them are variations on the subject of daydreaming about perfect beauty, longing for a beautiful fairy tale with an inevitably happy end.

“Magic cabbage”

This collection is absolutely fabulous, almost to a point of being a toy one. In the beginning there was an artichoke with its inspirational form and colour transition. The name itself has something exciting to it art- and choke, I like that. In the process of work artichokes by some mystical way turned into a magic cabbage, started shimmering with all colours of the rainbow and bloomed, attracting butterflies and other unusual creatures. And just as it often happens in fairy tales, the magic spindle of life started spinning, a white thread of fate began to curl in a bizarre pattern, obediently turning into a soft lace, then tangling up into a strong knot, then sprinkling pearls carefully strung on it, as if they were dew drops.

“Red Pepper”

Bright, defiant and hot red colour is the leading motif of this collection. The red line pierces all works of the cycle, here forming an ornament made of spicy chili peppers, there transforming into the tongue of a ritual calf or turning into a background and basic colour of the canvas. Red colour is a danger, passion, love and sometimes affiliation with power. Predatory moods of the canvases are emphasized by basic backgrounds of leopard and tiger colours.

“Wedding”

Pegasus (from Greek meaning «rapid current) and fabulous Unicorn, Magical Bird of Happiness, three horses, related by one purpose, abiding in compositional dialogue, the nest and needle of life enclosed in a golden egg, pearly net-cage in which my Dominant has messed up, these are all heroes and symbols of one wedding story. The horse image is many-faced and diverse, being at the same time worldly wisdom, everyday stamina, time running, the symbol of aristocratism, divine might and quite often fertility and power.

“Peonies”

This collection most fully discloses the topic of Fauvistic stylistics. When making floral compositions I completely abandoned descriptiveness in favour of generalization and stylization.
